The level of organic matter in your soil is critical. To be able to cultivate, your soil should have roughly 12% organic matter by volume. Soil organic matter holds soil particles together, allowing big aggregates to develop and increasing the rate of vacancy in the soil. The circulation of air and water in the soil is therefore eased. In the absence of organic matter, the stability of soil aggregates is disrupted, aggregates are broken down by precipitation and irrigation, big pores disappear, soil air and water circulation reduces, the soil compacts, and volume weight increases.
Organic matter decreases and the physical structure of the soil deteriorates in intensively farmed soils. As a result, you should add organic matter to your soil every year.
